January 25: Monitoring Meeting Rooms and the Journey Towards a Single Pane of Glass: A discussion of monitoring best practices, industry trends, and the current market of monitoring tools. Learn the practical steps towards single panel of glass monitoring, explore benefits of centralized data collection, investigate why AV monitoring is so hard in the first place, and discuss what we can do as an industry to fix it.

February 22: Price vs Cost Considerations for Networking Projects:  When considering undertaking a new networking endeavor, two very important questions to answer are “What do we need?” and “How much will it cost?”. Evaluating the various solutions for creating, rebuilding, and maintaining networking solutions can be a challenge. Identifying what you need at the price point you can afford often takes priority, but the lifetime maintenance costs are also important to factor into the project. Learn what to know when scoping out a networking project and how to accurately estimate the cost of hardware, configuration, and infrastructure before you begin.

March 22: Understanding DHS and DHCP Servers:  No matter how you use the network, one thing is evident: the flow and transfer is paramount. DNS (Domain Name System) servers sits in the space between us and computers to help push their communication. DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is a network management protocol used to dynamically assign an Internet Protocol (IP) address to any device, or node, on a network so they can communicate using IP. Knowing what these systems can do and how they interact with other systems will ensure that you are always aware of your network’s environment, what can affect it, and what is needed to optimize your network infrastructure’s potential.

April 26: Segmenting the Network: Knowledge of the various systems that are critical to flow of data can be the difference between optimal connections and no connection. Identifying how your network functions and knowing the tools, processes, and protocols that makes the system, “The System.” We will review what protocols affect real change in our networks and how to identify what to configure before we configure.

July 26: Compression Technology: Explore the pros and cons of common compression technologies, including JPEG200, H.265, and 10G network solutions. There are many situations that require data transfers to be broken down and reconstructed. Ideally in the reconstruction, we prefer that information to be identical to the original. There are also several situations in which it is possible to best achieve this.  In these situations, we look to compression technology to break down and send large amounts of data. Determining what your network can handle when applying this technology will be key when sending information either point to point or streaming to the masses.

September 27: Transmitting High Bandwidth Data on the Corporate Network: With information being transmitted almost as fast as we can think it, we still have those times where there is lag. From our homes to our offices, we know one thing to be a constant. We can go faster! The more bandwidth a data connection has, the more data it can send and receive at one time. On the other side of that coin, with more bandwidths come more problems. For companies, the need for speed usually is equal to the whole in your pocket. At some point most companies will have to ask, how do we get the most out of our bandwidth? And when do ask for more?
